SNAC Hosts Member-Favorite Emerging Leaders Program at Georgetown University

November 28, 2018

Washington, DC. November 14-16, 2018 — 37 attendees participated in SNAC International’s fourth Emerging Leaders Program —  a program designed to equip rising star employees with leadership, communication, team-building and negotiation skills, while giving them a broader view of the snack industry and the unique challenges it presents. The discussions were followed by networking opportunities for snack producers and suppliers.

Georgetown University Professor Dr. Robert Bies, kicked off the conference with an interactive discussion on forming highly effective teams. The session explored how people tend to seek out friends and colleagues who mirror themselves and their opinions instead of choosing to learn from differing personalities. Attendees then participated in a small group exercise to break down the distinguishing characteristics of effective and ineffective teams, and the importance of building and sustaining trust within a team.

Day 2 of ELP included a discussion on managing human capital for peak performance led by Georgetown University Professor Douglas McCabe, and a discussion on how to become an effective leader by understanding the way people think led by University Adjunct Professor Michael Mears. Finally, attendees learned how to become distinguished leaders by overcoming their instincts with Georgetown University Professor Sam Potolicchio.

Dr. Bies closed the program by discussing how there are multiple ways to solve a problem and often the simplest approach is the best approach. To exemplify this, attendees were broken down into several small groups and challenged to complete a task in the simplest way possible. View the full photo album here.
